For you skimmers, here’s the quick and dirty version of my background
I received a BS in Journalism from the University of Kansas and after a short stint as a journalist, I spent the next nearly 20 years in recruiting and training, including working in Fortune 100 companies.
In 2012, I trained as a life coach with Dr. Martha Beck; and in 2015 I earned a certificate in Positive Psychology from Whole Being Institute after training with Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar. In 2016, I trained and certified as a Strengths Coach with the Gallup organization.
My “Signature Themes” (aka top 5 Strengths, from the Clifton StrengthsFinderTM) are:
Achiever | Strategic | Positivity | Communication | Activator.
The Full Story
For most of my life, it felt like anything but a great adventure!
As a kid, I was full of joy, big dreams, and an adventurous spirit. I was a dreamer, an explorer, and was bursting with an exuberance and zest for life.
And then, adulting happened.
I dropped out of college, got married, and soon after had a child. No time for dreams and adventures when you have bills to pay and mouths to feed.
After a divorce, I went back to college and finished that degree. And then I settled into a mind-numbing, soul-crushing, routine.
I found myself working at jobs and in careers that were “good enough,” but were certainly not my passion. I didn’t hate them (most of the time) and they paid the bills. But I always felt like something was missing.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was supposed to be more to life than just working and paying bills and living for the weekend.
I was desperate to find work that I truly loved and that inspired me. I wanted to feel like I wasn’t just making a living, but that I was making a LIFE WORTH LIVING. I wanted my life to feel rich and meaningful and that it had a purpose.
I wasn’t exactly UNhappy, but I wasn’t truly happy and feeling alive, either.
And then in 2006, I was introduced to the Clifton StrengthsFinderTM while working in HR at a Fortune 100 company. Through learning about my Strengths, and researching them more and building them, I began to catch glimpses of what I was born to do.
I spent a few more years doing the corporate grind before I could no longer ignore my calling.
I eventually locked onto what Marth Beck calls my “north star” and realized that while I was very fortunate to have such a great job and be well paid, for me, a paycheck would never be enough. I had to do work that made a difference and that allows me to use my Super Powers.
That was what led me to finally answer the call to coach.
Because I understand what it is to feel that you’re just going through the motions of life, and because I have found the path to clarity, meaning, purpose and joy, I can help you find your passion, purpose, joy and zest again, too – just as I have helped all of my clients.
You see, you can actually design a life that is in total alignment with who you really are – one that is created and lived from your authentic self, and your values and strengths, and one that fills you with a sense of meaning and adventure.
If you’ve lost your sense of adventure and your passion for life, don’t just keep going through the motions. You deserve a full, rich, life that feels like a great adventure!
